Compostion and Cropping
Compostion
Why are some photos OK, and others outstanding? Aside from correct exposure and color balance, the impact a photo has is often the result of good compostion.
Over time artists and photographers have learned certain "rules" to follow that lend themselves to great photos. One of wich is called the "Rule of Thirds". Notice in the example below how key elements of the photo fall within close proximity to an intersection of thirds.
Why and How are photos cropped?
One of the many ways a professional photogrpaher differenciates himself from others is the abily to know and use correct compostion and cropping.
Todays cameras capture images in a basic 4"x6" format. The image should be captured is such a way as to facilitate cropping to different size prints. Just about every size of print has a different proportion than a 4x6, so they need to be cropped in such a way that the resulting image still looks good.
